Alchemy by Fusion is a chalk-style paint known for its flat, chalky finish and artistic flexibility. A topcoat is recommended. Alchemy is a blend of acrylic, limestone, and chalk.
It’s highly pigmented and a little thicker in texture, highly blendable, easy to layer and distress, making it perfect for achieving unique, textured looks. Adding a touch of water or misting while painting is a common desire among painters and it works very well with Alchemy.
Although we recommend a top coat for best performance, Alchemy allows for creative freedom by letting you choose your preferred topcoat or leave it as is for a soft, flat vintage look.
Alchemy by Fusion brings you the sought after, familiar chalk-like qualtities, combined with Fusion’s durability.
Prep: you will prep your piece just as you would with Fusion (see photo carousel for a flowchart)
Application: Alchemy is thicker than Fusion, so your application will be a bit different over large surfaces. You may choose to mist your substrate with water or wet your brush slightly. A natural bristle brush may be easier to use than a synthetic brush.
Topcoat: If your piece is not a high traffic surface, you can choose to leave the soft, vintage flat look and skip topcoat. If you choose to topcoat, it will deepen the color. You can use Fusion’s fine furniture wax, Fusion Beeswax, Fusion Hemp Oil, Fusion Tough Coat, or Fusion Ultra Guard. Other topcoats may be compatible, but you should always test.
Shelf life: 7 years unopened. Once opened, please transfer to a smaller container as you use if it will sit on the shelf for a long period. Large amounts of oxygen in the container will cause the paint to begin to cure.
Water resistance: If you intend on your piece to be exposed to water, topcoating is recommended.
Dry Time: 30 minutes - 2 hours
Bonding Agent: Alchemy has the same built in bonding agent as Fusion, an acrylic binder. If you are concerned about tannin bleed through, you will need to use a stain blocking primer.
Cure Time: 21 days
Artistic Characteristics: Blendable, buildable layers.
Alchemy can freeze up to 3 times, unlike chalk paints
Alchemy is more durable than chalk paints - a second generation chalk paint of sorts.
